With Chris Licht’s dismissal as chairman and chief executive of CNN on Wednesday morning, staffers are aiming to get back to that mission. In recent months, David Zaslav, chief executive of CNN parent Warner Bros. The piece, in which Alberta spoke to more than 100 CNN employees, called into question Licht’s ability to lead the organization moving forward. New York CNN —Chris Licht, the embattled chief executive and chairman of CNN, whose brief one-year tenure at the network was stained by a series of severe missteps, departed the company on Wednesday. “I met with Chris and he will be leaving CNN,” David Zaslav, the chief executive of parent company Warner Bros. But it became increasingly clear that Licht’s tenure as the chief executive was not tenable and quickly coming to an end. The CNN chief had, in effect, lost the room. Hundreds of CNN employees were laid off in late November and early December.

CNN —The US ambassador to Israel Tom Nides will depart from his post in August, according to two sources familiar with the matter. Nides informed the embassy of his plans on Tuesday, one of the sources said. The second source said Nides has begun telling members of the Israeli government that he will be leaving this summer. Special counsel Jack Smith has subpoenaed local officials in key presidential swing states for any and all communications involving former President Donald Trump, his campaign and a series of aides and allies who assisted in his effort to overturn the 2020 election. A spokesperson for Milwaukee County Clerk George Christenson confirmed that Smith’s office had sent a subpoena. Scott McDonnell, the Dane County clerk, confirmed to NBC News that his county had received a virtually identical subpoena as Milwaukee. An Arizona elections official confirmed that Maricopa County had received such a subpoena this month with similar demands for those communications. They said poll workers work long hours and risk being harassed, but it's an important job. I worked as an assistant manager at a polling location in Fulton County, Georgia, where election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss worked during the 2020 presidential election. I first started working the polls in 2020 for the presidential election, when a lot of poll workers quit because of the pandemic. One of our Republican election observers appeared to have fallen asleep while he was there, so that made me less nervous. We had to tell them that when you sign up to get a driver's license in Georgia, you're not automatically registered.
